Once again I haven't blogged in a while. This is because the last 3 weeks have been a whirlwind! I don't have access to any of the pictures right now (haven't even had time to get them off the camera!), but will give you a quick summary with pictures still to come.
We planned to move to the new house on Sept. 21. The weekend before that we had plans to attend Scott's cousin's wedding in Rockford, IL. A week before that, we learned of the unexpected death of Scott's Great-Aunt in Creston. So on Wednesday of that week we attended Aunt Doris's funeral in Creston, and then that Saturday attend his cousin's wedding. It is great to see the Platt side of the family twice in one week, but not as nice when one of the visits is for the funeral of a loved one.
The week after the wedding we spent most of our time packing. On Friday, Sept. 20, we closed on the new house, and planned to spend the afternoon cleaning before moving in. We got there, and discovered that the previous owners had the house spotless...I have never seen a cleaner oven! So instead of cleaning my Mom came over and we moved everything from our kitchen into the new house, and even got it all into the cupboards!
Then that Saturday morning we got up bright and early, and with the help of several family members from both sides of the family, got everything in our house moved into the new house! That was quite the effort, and we were tired!
Scott took pretty much the whole next week off to work on unpacking. We moved the stuff from the garden shed to the new house, and cleaned the old house. We also have to do some radon mitigation in the old house before closing (yes, we have sold it, and hope to close on Oct. 30...unless this federal gov't shutdown prevents the buyer's USDA loan from progressing...), so also spend some time getting contractors set up to do that work. On the weekend our friend Travis was visiting from OK, and he helped to empty out our rental storage unit. We had felt like we were getting things put away pretty well, but after emptying the storage until, half our garage is now full! Still some work to do unpacking!
So that is the month of September. Add in two large repairs on my car, and repairs on the truck to forking out the down payment on the new house, and it has been an expensive month!
I will work on getting some pics up of the new house soon. We have furniture in, and are unpacking a lot of boxes, but really haven't put up any pictures or decorations yet. That will probably be last.
