Carrie's Baby Shower

Last weekend was an exciting one for my sister Carrie.  She is 32 weeks pregnant, and while she has been having Braxton-Hicks contractions for a while, she really started having strong, "for real" contractions on Friday.  She went to the hospital and after two shots and an iv of magnesium sulfate, they managed to slow the contractions down.  After spending the night in the hospital, she was given some blood pressure medicine (it pulls calcium from the muscles, which is what causes contractions) that she can take every 8 hours if she has a contraction.  Did I mention that her husband, Tim, was out of town all last week and was going to be out of town half of the next week?  Not fun!  My mom was staying with her, but it's still nice to have your husband around a times like this, so he hurried home.

Carrie went home on Saturday morning, but didn't want to cancel the baby shower planned for Sunday!  So, Sunday afternoon we all went to her sister-in-law's house for a baby shower.  They are currently removing a wall in their house, so they moved the living room outside and we got to party in the yard and enjoy the beautiful weather.  Carrie had to remain seated the entire time.

They had smashed 10 different candy bars into diapers, and we had to guess which was what kind of candy.  Mom is touching a brown diaper stain...she may have sniffed it as well.  At least she didn't lick it!

We also had some stroller obstacle course races.

Each of the guests was assigned a letter of the alphabet, and asked to make/buy/create something with that letter to hand in the baby's room.  Very creative!

Carrie went back to the doctor on Monday, and they would not let her go back to work, but assigned her 4 weeks of bedrest.  They also gave her some shots that will help the baby's lungs develop faster.  The good thing is that by the end of this week, she is not having contractions as much.  My new little nephew needs to stay in there for a few more weeks!
