Crochet!

I've known how to knit for a number of years, but haven't done any projects lately because the kids tend to pull out needles and mess up the projects, and I needed something quicker to do.  A couple weeks ago I decided to teach myself how to crochet.  Since I already knew how to read a pattern and how to recognize stitches, I was able to just go online and give myself a quick primer on how to do crochet stitches, then start a project!
This was my first project, and it only took about 3 hours.  It is supposed to be a cloche style hat.  You can see that there is a hole in the top left that is not supposed to be there.  Also, I did something wrong as I was transitioning from the hat to the brim, and it got really tight with no stretch.  I couldn't even get it on to a kid's head!  It was a good attempt and I learned how to do a number of stitches, so I don't consider it a total waste of time.  However, I did take the whole thing apart the next morning.  I have figured out what I did wrong, so I might try this pattern again.  I kept the flower for a future project.

I still wanted to make a slouch hat for my niece as a birthday present, so I found a different pattern and put it together over a couple nights.  Thanks to Scott for being a lovely slouch hat model.  I did give it to my niece and she said she likes it, but I haven't seen her since to find out if she is actually wearing it.
My sister had shown me a pattern for a crown with Elsa hair (from Frozen).  I wanted to make something like that for my niece K, but decided instead to do Rapunzel hair, since she already has a Rapunzel costume.
Laurel is modeling the crown (smashed down) with some of the hair attached.
Scott holds the end of a long braid for me, while Laurel "crochets"
Yesterday afternoon I finished attaching all the hair, then braided it.  I am going to crochet a bunch of little flowers and attach them to the braid, so it looks something like this:
