I invited my Mom over to do some craft time projects with me yesterday (Dad came also and graded papers and watched basketball with Scott). I had bought a tray at Goodwill and wanted to paint it, and also work on another project I've been planning.
| Here is the tray. I have had a couple ask how I could paint over it, since it is a piece of history...I mean, Washington's Headquarters in Morristown in 1774 were important, right? I suppose I should have brought it to Antiques roadshow first. BUT, in my defense, the handles are plastic, and it's not hand painted or anything, so I don't think it's really an "authentic" antique. So I feel no guilt painting it. :) |
| I painted the tray white, but I asked Mom to do the design, as her drawing and art skills far surpass mine. She hasn't had a chance to do any fun painting in a while, so she enjoyed it also. |
| Almost finished product...we decided we needed a little more in the bottom corner. |
| The final product! |
| While Mom worked on the tray, I made a little 3D shadow box. The picture and shells are from the beach in Charleston, SC. The rocks and sand (yes, I glued actual sand to the picture) are from the beach in Seattle, WA. Once the glue dries, I can spray it with finish, and display it in the bathroom. |
In the evening we went to check out our friend Jacob's new house and land. It is a berm house, and a nice place (despite some 80's decor and a really rockin' hanging lamp with a big eagle on it...). We took a little hike around the property, picked some asparagus and rhubarb, and enjoyed the sunset.
Tim may invite himself over for some rhubarb pie! I suppose I could probably eat a piece also since I'll come along. ;)
