Scott and I haven't seen much of each other over the last two weeks--he was gone for a whole week, then I had volleyball camp, then he was gone through Wed. this past week. He used up some vacation time on Thursday, and this weekend we have enjoyed just being at home and not doing much next. Next week Scott goes to Kansas City for work, but Laurel and I are going with him this time! A mini vacation...although Scott will be in meetings and I plan to do some work from the hotel during the day.
Last weekend for work we had the Iowa High Performance volleyball camp at William Penn University here in Oskaloosa. Part of my job is to do a lot of the planning for HP, so I help set-up, run errands during camp, do what needs to be needed, and fortunately get to sleep at home since it is where I live. This year I had Laurel with me for the whole camp. (Scott was home for the weekend, but Laurel will at this time only take a bottle from me, my mom, my sister...maybe any female? But she won't take a bottle from Scott, she just screams and screams. Weird child.)

Laurel did really well at camp. I brought in her stroller, and that allowed me to cart around the camera, my purse, the diaper bag, my backpack, and the baby. I discovered that William Penn is not very child friendly, in that there are no changing tables anywhere, and the handicap access to the gym and the dining hall is few and far between. In fact, the only elevator up to the dining hall comes out into the kitchen, so they had to let me push the stroller out the kitchen and through the food line for every meal. But we got by, and Laurel was a gem! She hardly ever cried, and even consented to be hauled around in the baby carrier a lot so I could take pictures. I am glad that she is a happy baby--I just assumed she would be, and made no plans for if she wasn't!
There was no lack of people offering to hold Laurel...coaches, parents, even some of the players!
I took pictures at camp to post on the Iowa HP facebook page, and this gave me an opportunity to play with our new camera and figure out how to get good sports shots. I focused on a spot, held down the shutter so it took continuous pictures, then deleted 3/4 of the pictures that were of nothing in order to get one good one.
This is one of my favorite shots that I got at camp. I like how the "Molton" on the volleyball is perfectly facing the camera. Maybe they will call me to use it for an ad?? :)
We will of course allow Laurel to choose if she wants to play volleyball or not. But I figure if she grows up in the gym watching volleyball and plays it with me, she will want to play! I decided to introduce her to her first volleyball at camp.
I was trying to get her hand on the ball so it looked like she was spiking, but she was so asleep that her arm just dropped. Don't worry, Laurel, we'll get some pictures of you spiking some day!
