Laurel took a late nap today, so after supper we went outside to run around in the yard in the hopes that she would get tired. It didn't work--she spent an hour crying in her bedroom when we tried to get her to go to bed, and then finally fell asleep on my lap on the sofa around 10:15pm. Anyway, she had fun chasing her beach ball and playing with the water that drips out of the garden hose.

Daddy, can I help water the garden?

Here is my garden this year. So far, the onions are doing well, and I actually have blooms on the cucumber plants! I have not had much luck on tomatoes or peppers in the past few years, but I planted them anyway. And a butternut squash...first time I've tried to grow that! We also have some volunteer lettuce.

See that really thick and vibrant patch of grass in the front of the picture? Scott mowed today, yet it still looks fuller than the rest of the yard. That is where the bird feeder has been...the seed falls, is "fertilized," and then the grass grows! We have now moved the bird feeder to another spot in the yard, where the grass is very thin.
