Independence Day Celebration in Leighton

On Friday, the 28th, our Mahaska Co. CERT team marched in the Independence Day parade and watch fireworks.  Leighton is a very small town between Pella and Oskaloosa, but they have a great fireworks show over the lovely Iowa cornfields.

The CERT team.

Waiting for the sun to go down.  Laurel ran all over, watching the softball game and the boys playing basketball.

I need a drink!
This was the first time Laurel saw fireworks.  You never know if little kids will freak out or enjoy it.  During the parade we were right in front of the ambulance and fire truck, and every time they honked their horns or turned on the sirens, I would see babies and kids watching the parade start crying...but not Laurel!  She handled the fireworks really well!  She watched the first couple, then turned and hugged me and watched over her shoulder for a couple minutes...then fell asleep.  It was late and she was tired!

Scott had read about taking pictures of fireworks in his Popular Photography magazine.  It is difficult to do without all kinds of special equipment, but he followed the instructions, and got some good pictures.
