Fridays at Home

Scott works long days--his work schedule is 7am to 5:30pm--and often gets home later than that.  But, because he works four 10 hours day,s it means that he gets Fridays off.  That is a blessing for this stay at home Mom!  We get a "3 day weekend" every week, and an extra day to do laundry, clean up the house, do projects, and go to appointments.  It also gives me a day to work on projects while there is another adult around to help take care of the kids.

Laurel's birthday isn't until April 7, but almost all of our relatives on both sides of the family were going to be around this past weekend, so we decided to have an early birthday celebration for her.  I checked out a Dora cake pan from the Pella library and decided to try a new venture and make her a decorated cake!
Putting the side and background color on

There is her face!  After I finished the cake, I decided that the chunk of blue on the left probably should have been hair, and not background color.  I spent about 3 or 4 hours on the cake Friday afternoon, but it turned out pretty good!

The finished cake, with 2 candles for the birthday girl!
