Memorial Day 2014

On Memorial Day, most of my side of the family came over for lunch.  We grilled various meats, and had a plethora of fruits and vegetables...and also a bunch of desserts!  I had bought and filled about 90 water balloons, and Mom and a couple of my nieces also filled up a bunch of water balloons that morning and brought those along.  I scattered the bowls around the front yard for a water balloon fight!

First we played that game where you stand a few feet apart, toss the water balloon back and forth, and keep taking steps further apart.

After tossing the balloons back and forth for a while, we set down the rules (don't hit Uncle Doug, who was holding the baby, and try not to hit Laurel), then the chaos began.  I did not get any pictures because I was too busy running around trying to nail people with water balloons.  For the most part, they bounced right off the other person and broke in the grass.  After we used up all the balloons, we had the fun job of wandering around the yard picking up all the pieces of balloon.  3-4 hours of filling balloons, gone in 3 minutes!

After we were out of balloons, some of the younger kids just started filling the bowls with water and throwing that at each other.  And a few minutes after we finished, it started to rain lightly, so we stood out in the rain and got extra wet!  Laurel had fun dropping balloons on the ground and watching them pop.  I don't think anyone actually hit her with any balloons, but she had a grand time playing in the rain and didn't want to come inside!
