My niece Rhea has a birthday later this month. Her family headed to Colorado for a family vacation this week, and Rhea requested that we celebrate her birthday early since she will be gone. So, this past Sunday we had lunch at my parent's house and celebrated Rhea's birthday.
Rhea is currently into fairies. She recently showed me a notebook in which she has drawn a bunch of pictures of fairies. When she spent the night at our house a few weeks ago, we watched Tinkerbell and the Great Fairy Rescue, and she loved it. So for her birthday I decided to make her a fairy cottage.
I spray painted a Graham cracker box brown, cut out a hole for a doorway, and made a little door out of sticks and pipe cleaners. I made a little bead wreath for the door, and a doorbell. For the roof I cut leaf shadows out of pretty paper and used the hot glue gun to stock them to a cup. I glued the cup to the top of the box, made a paper chimney, and used a cotton ball as smoke. I put the cottage on a cardboard base, glued on some stepping stones and added a "fairies welcome" sign. I think it turned out very nice!
